Rover
Charity
Rover donated
to 158 Children's Hospitals!
A copy of Rover is being sent to approximately
158 Children's hospitals in the US! The original inspiration for this book donation
started in San Diego at Rady Children’s Hospital when hospital staff in
the Hematology/Oncology unit expressed enthusiastic interest in the book as their
immunocompromised patients do not get to participate in the Pet Therapy Program.
With long hospital stays, many of these children miss their pets immensely. This
program was made possible by the generosity of Mike and Christine Arme.
The simplicity of the book, its soulful portraits and stunning size provide a
captivating experience for children who need a positive distraction. It was suggested
the Child Life Department, the library or the playroom could be a wonderful home
for Rover to be loved. We are hoping laughter and joy will contribute to the
healing process.
Here's one of the letters we just received from a hospital!
Andrew, I thought you might enjoy this story
about "Rover". We have a long-term care boy who has been with us for
many years. His condition is very involved and he's not capable of doing too
many things. He attends a class daily that is on the unit to give him stimulation.
When our teachers shared the book with him, he became animated and started saying
words that they haven't heard from him in years. Each teacher was so excited
that they individually shared the story with me - they were all amazed . So far,
every day he goes to the classroom he takes the book and won't let anyone else
touch it. Who would have thought that one book could make such a difference in
a child's life. Thanks again.
